Changes Afoot for Blue Badge Scheme

The Department for Transport recently announced a consultation document looking at ways of making sure the Blue Badge scheme is more secure and that it benefits those who really need it.

Amongst other things, the consultation document includes proposals to…

Extend the reach of the scheme, for example, ensuring more parents of severely disabled children are eligible for a Badge.

Whilst I have personally witnessed the inconsistencies and lack of flexibility in the scheme, I remain optimistic that this consultation will have a positive effect on the upcoming Blue Badge Reform Strategy, due to be published in the spring 2008.

The consultation is not a public consultation, however if you feel inclined to contribute, the DfT have published a comprehensive list of consultees on their website.
