Disabled Children Growing up in Hidden Poverty

A new Save the Children report has highlighted that the additional costs of raising a disabled child are not taken into account for official poverty records. They estimate that a large number of families with disabled children are in ‘hidden poverty’.

A 2007 Unicef report put the UK at the bottom of the pile of developed countries for child wellbeing, and a large part of that is due to children living in poverty.

Save the Children have found that when income increases for families living on a very low income, that money is spent on basic needs - food and clothing, rather than fags and booze as certain ‘tabloids’ would have everyone believe.
