New NHS Choices from April

credit: The new NHS Choices scheme about to be introduced in April ‘08 plans to enable patients to choose which hospital or specialist they would like to see - and they can choose from any NHS hospital and some private ones.
Looking around the website, there does seem to be some generally useful information about various conditions and how to go about booking appointments. However, the lesser well known conditions and syndromes may not have any information or guidance on accessing services.
As I looked around I found that if you know what you need and it is specific, this website is not a lot of use. You can not specify for more than about 20 generalised topics e.g. mental health, childcare, parenting etc etc which means it is tricky to navigate.
However, we welcome the advent of more choice for patients and hope this is just the first stepping stone to a better system where parents and carers actually have choices about who they see and where they see them.
