Schools Secretary Ed Balls has launched a new guide for schools to help stamp out bullying of children with learning disabilities.

According to Mencap a shocking 8 out of 10 children with learning disabilities have been bullied, and 6 out of 10 physically harmed - more than twice as common as with other students. Ed Balls describes this as the “cruellest expression of cowardice”.

The guide includes specific advice for schools such as including everyone in sport and physical activities and appointing somebody to look out for a particular child.

Emma-Jane Cross, chief exec of BeatBullying welcomed the announcement but reiterated the need for widespread anti-bullying measures for all children in every school.
