Educational tool, likeable toy or totally unnecessary?

There has been a real upsurge lately in disabled dolls. There are now dolls that have features of Downs Syndrome, dolls in wheelchairs, blind dolls and even dolls with prosthetic limbs.

Opinion appears to be largely divided about the usefulness of these dolls, and about whether children appreciate or need toys that reflect their own experience.
